How can computer interfaces enable complex judgments involving various data sources and opposing constraints?. An examination of the history of geospatial decision support reveals a number of challenges and gaps. The adjustable data overlay systems that pass for decision support systems, which are used in weather forecasting and military command and control, demand more and more mental work from users as the amount and complexity of data sources grows. We present the design for a decision support system that augments geospatial data overlay systems and allows users to reason about data effect.
